Dog lying on a seamless flake floor

Polyaspartic Floor Coatings for Dog Kennels and Dog Rooms

Quick answer

A polyaspartic floor coating works well for dog kennels and dog rooms because it’s seamless and non-porous, so urine and odors have nowhere to soak in. It hoses out and squeegees dry, stands up to claws and cleaners, and can be finished with texture so paws get grip. Most rooms are done in one day.

Lindsay and I have two Pomeranians, so this one is personal. Anybody with dogs knows the drill: accidents, muddy paws after a storm, the water bowl that somehow ends up everywhere, and that smell that creeps into a room no matter how often you clean it.

A lot of that comes down to the floor. Here’s why a coated floor makes such a difference in a dog room or kennel.

Why Most Floors Fail Dog Owners

  • Bare concrete is porous. Urine soaks in, and the odor comes back every time it gets humid, which around here is most of the year.
  • Tile looks clean, but the grout lines hold moisture, bacteria, and smell.
  • Vinyl and laminate have seams that let liquid underneath, and claws scratch them up.
  • Painted concrete peels under scrubbing and hosing.

What a Polyaspartic Floor Does Differently

No seams, nothing to soak in

A coated floor is one continuous surface. There’s no grout and no seams, so accidents stay on top where you can clean them up instead of soaking into the concrete.

Hose it out

For kennels and dog runs on a slab, you can hose the floor down, scrub with your usual pet-safe cleaner, and squeegee it toward the drain or the door. That’s a five-minute job instead of a weekend one.

Grip for paws

Dogs slide on slick floors, and older dogs especially need good footing. The flake in our system adds texture, and we can build more grip into the topcoat.

Tough on claws

A hard, high-solids topcoat holds up to claws far better than vinyl or paint, and a multi-tone flake blend hides the little scuffs that do happen.

Good Spaces to Coat

  • Dog rooms and mudrooms on a slab
  • Garage kennels and dog runs
  • Grooming areas and wash stations
  • Breeder and boarding kennels
  • Laundry rooms where the dogs sleep

A Few Practical Tips

  • Plan for drainage. If you hose out the room, think about where the water goes. We’ll look at it with you.
  • Pick a busy blend. Multi-tone flake hides hair, dirt, and paw prints between cleanings.
  • Keep the dogs out during install. You can walk on the floor in about 5 hours. We’ll tell you exactly when it’s ready for the dogs.
  • Use pet-safe cleaners. The floor handles common cleaners, so use what’s safe for your dogs.

Prep Still Matters

Old urine stains in bare concrete need to be dealt with before coating, and like every floor we do, the slab gets diamond-ground and repaired first. If there’s a moisture problem coming up through the slab, we’ll tell you before we coat it, not after.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is a coated floor safe for dogs?

Once it’s cured, yes. We’ll tell you exactly when the dogs can come back in.

Will it get rid of the urine smell?

It seals the surface so new accidents can’t soak in. Old odors in the concrete need to be treated during prep, and we’ll talk about that at the estimate.

Is it slippery for dogs?

We add texture so paws get grip, especially for older dogs.

How long does it take?

Most dog rooms are done in one day.
