No Bridge? No Problem

Quick answer

Floor Shield Lowcountry installs polyaspartic floor coatings on Daufuskie Island, including garages, golf cart barns, porches, patios, and pool decks in Haig Point, Melrose, Bloody Point, and the island’s historic district. Because the island is reachable only by water, we plan materials and scheduling with you ahead of time. Every floor carries a 15-year warranty.

Daufuskie is a different world, and that’s the whole point of living there. No bridge, mostly sand roads, and golf carts instead of cars. It’s also tough on floors. Sand comes in on every tire, salt air never lets up, and the humidity hangs in the live oaks all summer.

Island jobs take more planning than a Bluffton garage, and we won’t pretend otherwise. We’ll talk through access, timing, and logistics with you before we schedule, so install day goes smoothly once we’re across the water.

Our Services on Daufuskie Island

Island homes have their own needs. These are the floors Daufuskie owners care about most.

Daufuskie Communities We Serve

Daufuskie is small, but every corner of it is a little different.

Haig Point

The private community on the north end, home to the Haig Point lighthouse and a lot of golf cart garages. Owners here want floors that fit the community’s classic Lowcountry look.

Melrose

On the Atlantic side, with beach access and homes that see plenty of sand and salt. Porches and entries take the brunt of it.

Bloody Point

The south end of the island, looking out toward the mouth of the Savannah River. Outbuildings, garages, and porches all fight humidity here.

The Historic District

Around the old schoolhouses, churches, and Gullah homesites in the island’s center, where some homes and outbuildings sit on older or patched slabs.

What Daufuskie Does to Concrete

An island with sand roads is beautiful and rough on bare concrete.

Sand Roads

Cart tires bring sand onto every slab. Over time it grinds down bare and painted floors.

Salt Air

With water on every side, salt settles on everything. Sealed concrete rinses clean.

Heavy Humidity

Shade from the live oaks and constant moisture invite mildew on porches and patios.

Life on Daufuskie

A Little Daufuskie History

Daufuskie sits between Hilton Head and Savannah, and for most of its history it was cut off from both. Native Americans, then plantations, then generations of Gullah families who fished, farmed, and harvested oysters here all made the island home.

In 1969, a young teacher named Pat Conroy took a job at the island’s two-room schoolhouse. He wrote about it in The Water Is Wide, which later became the movie Conrack. The Mary Fields School where he taught still stands.

Today the island is part getaway, part living history. Golf carts on sand roads, an artist’s studio full of metal fish, and churches and homesites that go back more than a century.

Island questions

Daufuskie Island Floor Coating FAQs

What Daufuskie homeowners ask us most. Call or text 843-288-9417.

Do you really work on Daufuskie Island?

Yes. Island jobs take more planning than mainland work, and we'll go over access, timing, and logistics with you before we schedule.

Can you coat a golf cart barn?

Yes. Cart barns and garages are some of the most common island floors we see. A flake floor handles sand and tires well and sweeps clean.

How does salt air affect a coated floor?

Polyaspartic seals the surface, so salt and sand stay on top and rinse off instead of working into the concrete.

Do you work in Haig Point?

Yes, and we follow the community's rules for access and work hours.

Can you coat an older island slab?

Usually. Older slabs need more grinding and crack repair. If one is still moving or holding moisture, we'll tell you before we coat it.

Is there a warranty on island jobs?

Yes. The same 15-year warranty as every Floor Shield floor, on coatings made in the USA.
