A Little Pooler History
Pooler was first settled in 1838 and named for Robert William Pooler, a railroad man. It was Pooler’s Station on the Central of Georgia Railway, the last stop before Savannah.
In December 1864, Union officers under General Sherman met here while negotiating Savannah’s peaceful surrender. Today Pooler is home to the Mighty Eighth Air Force Museum, honoring the air force that was activated in Savannah in 1942, and it’s one of the fastest-growing cities in the state.
