A Little Rincon History
Settlers arrived around Rincon in 1751, but the town really took off when the railroad came through in the 1890s. It was incorporated in 1927, and locals pronounce it RINK-in, not the Spanish way. The name is thought to come from a town in Mexico and means corner or nook.
Just outside town, the Salzburgers, Protestant refugees from Austria, settled Ebenezer in the 1730s. Their Jerusalem Lutheran Church, finished in 1769, still stands. Ebenezer Creek is also the site of a tragic Civil War crossing, now marked by a Georgia Historical Society marker.
