Why We Chose Polyaspartic: An Owner’s Perspective

Quick answer

We install only 100% high-solids polyaspartic because it’s UV-stable, cures fast enough to finish most homes in one day, handles Lowcountry heat and humidity, and lets us stand behind every floor with a 15-year warranty. We’d rather do one product the right way than offer a cheaper option we don’t believe in.

When Lindsay and I were deciding what to install, epoxy was off the table. That surprises some people, because epoxy is what most folks have heard of. So here’s the thinking behind it.

We Wanted One Product We Could Stand Behind

In the car business, I learned that the fastest way to lose a customer’s trust is to sell them something you wouldn’t buy yourself. We didn’t want a good, better, best menu where the cheap option was really a future redo. We wanted one product, installed one way, that we’d be proud to put our name on.

The Lowcountry Is Hard on Floors

We came here from South Florida by way of New England, so we know heat and we know weather. The Lowcountry combines both: strong sun most of the year, summers in the 90s, humidity that hangs on through September, pollen season, and sand on everything near the beach.

Most epoxies yellow in sunlight. That’s a deal-breaker for a garage with the door open, and an even bigger one on a patio or pool deck. Polyaspartic is UV-stable, so it’s made to hold its color.

Time Matters to Our Customers

Nobody wants their garage out of commission for most of a week. With polyaspartic, most homes are done in one day. In warm weather, you can walk on it in about 5 hours and drive on it in about 48 hours. For a family in Bluffton or a retiree in Sun City, that’s a big deal.

High-Solids, Not Watered Down

Our Floor Shield coating is 100% high-solids, which means almost everything in the bucket ends up on your floor as coating, not solvent that evaporates. You get a thicker, tougher film than the thin kits sold at the hardware store.

But the Product Is Only Half of It

I’ll be honest: the best coating in the world fails on bad prep. That’s why every floor we do gets diamond-ground and repaired before anything goes down, and why we check for moisture on slabs where it’s a question. If your slab has a moisture problem, we’ll tell you before we coat it, not after.

Backed in Writing

All of that is why we can offer a 15-year warranty on Floor Shield coatings made in the USA. We go over the terms with you in writing before any work starts.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you ever install epoxy?

No. We install 100% high-solids polyaspartic only.

Is polyaspartic more expensive?

It usually costs more up front than epoxy. We think the one-day install, UV stability, and warranty make it the better value over time.
